The Matrix: Reloaded

I went to the theatres with high expectations, although I did try my best keeping them as low as possible. Well, at first (when the credits were rolling) I didn't really know what to think about it. Was it average? Good? It certainly wasn't dull. Well I've formed my opinion now, and I think Reloaded is the coolest action movie I have ever seen. I mean, some give the Matrix some God-like status, and the hype certainly didn't try to take this status away either. But if you look at it as what it is, it's just one entertaining ride. That's what you want in an action movie: action. It's just a movie. Not some God-like messiah. In fact, I even think Reloaded had a theme; something with choices, I guess.

And when I compare Reloaded to the Matrix, I'd say the Matrix was better. My friends thought Reloaded was 'definetely phatter than the first' but also agreed that the first one was indeed 'better'.

I didn't like the Morpheus character that much, he was a great character in the first, but in the second he became like a parody of himself.

The fight sequence with the angent smiths is the coolest fight sequence i have ever seen from a Hollywood movie. That scene just made me smile. Even my girlfriend thought that sh*t was whack.

The story was there, it had some plot twists and all that, but I found it a bit vague. I still am not entirely sure what this 'Source' at the end of the movie told Neo. And my major problem was that the dialogue s*cked. The characters were explaining way too much. If you've read any screenplay books, you know what that means. They're explaining the story instead of showing it. Talking heads.

Oh well. I liked it. Peace.

Well I liked it. Some quite amazing action sequences and about a million new and unanswered questions.

In the pre-Matrix PR build up somebody wrote an article in The Independent on Sunday this weekend about the coolness of Keanu Reeves - 'Keanu Reeves, cool man' - it was quite good - here's a great snippet:

[Keanu Reeves] has trouble with questions ? I mean, don't you know how aggressive, how totally inappropriate questions can be?

In 1992, Reeves was doing a cover interview for Movieline magazine, and he was given the not unreasonable (or unlikely) question: "Why do you act?".

After a great deal of hesitation, philosophy, and shifting the position of his motor-cycle helmet on the table, he came up with "You know, man, whatever".

But then as time passed some seed of doubt began to sprout ? perhaps that question needed more. Here is the more: "Did you ever want to jump off a bridge on to the back of a truck? I just remembered your flight of fancy. You know, about why I want to act. It's a question that arises every day. I mean, it's the meat of the matter. I just didn't feel like meandering, you know. I was trying to give you a clear, defined answer. So: did you ever want to jump off a bridge on to the back of a moving truck?"

Cool (isn't it?)

Is there anything more ordinary or charming than Keanu's smiling admission: "I'm a meathead. You've got smart people and you've got dumb people. I just happen to be dumb."

Maybe there will be a few losses along the way as dumb culture sets in. But I think 2,000 years of learning, literature and conversation have been ample proof that smart people, sooner or later, end up unhappy, antisocial and just difficult. Do we really enjoy that, or want it?

You know the answer (as in "You know the answer") and, yes, it's all about love and being cool.

I saw it and loved it.

There were some really awkward transitions in the dialogue and...

...All in all a great film. Can't wait for the third.

the whole thing with Neo and the architect at the end just caused laughter in the audience. However the fight scenes were just incredible and Keanu looked more at home doing kung fu than in the first movie.

Keanu is the perfect Neo because, well, he looks just so damned confused all the time...and with him you never know how much of it is actually acting. Don't get me wrong though. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can't wait for the third.

A mess. Nothing new learnt about any of the characters, no structure to the action or the dialogue...The sublime orginal was turned into a mockery of itself with stupid comic relief and badly introduced new settings and people. The plot was badly realised and any subtlety was grossly disguarded with the **** photography.

At the time I enjoyed it, in retrospect it was a letdown.

Neo's invincibility takes away any possible tension. This is illustrated in his fight scenes. He can even revive his girlfriend just cos he wants to. No threat to face. And is it me or are trinity, morpheus and neo not THAT interesting as people?

Agent smith is still the best character, ironically more real and engaging than any of the "human" ones.

And what was with the zion party scene? That belonged in another movie and made no sense to me at all.

The philosophy stuff was pushed too far as well. Cause and effect. If you walk through this door trinity dies, if a butterfly flaps its wings in toronto the world ends, if they keep talking I will doze off...

Also too many characters. Those dreadlock guys look like something out of ghostbusters. Links girlfriend that french git, the architect, the keymaker, the Fing zion council-do we really need it?

And I LOVE the original.

exactly. The party scene was didn't belong to the matrix, neither did the whole of the zion section. I pictured the last human city as slums, a functional society like one now, but one of problems that could be related to now. The original was a cool, urban setting. This one seemed like star trek most of the time, and the new characters were either trying to be funny, or not explored properly.
